Cathy Whittall is a British illustrator, and graphic designer based in Worcestershire, UK. Her work moves fluidly between digital illustration, watercolours, and oil painting, combining a love of vibrant wildlife, botanical forms, expressive portraiture and architecture.
Cathy’s creative journey began with a Foundation in Art and Photography at St Helens College of Art and Design in 1984.
She has exhibited at venues throughout the North West and East Midlands and continues to share her work with audiences worldwide through online galleries such as Saatchi Art.
Her practice is both personal and expansive. Cathy has completed numerous private commissions in oils, watercolours, and digital illustration.
In 2019 she developed a powerful body of large-scale portraiture (5 ft × 4 ft oil on canvas), created from interviews and photographic studies. These works often explore themes of loss, resilience, and memory, inspired in part by her own experience of family tragedy. One of these large-scale oil portraits now hangs in the Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong.
Alongside her fine art, Cathy produces bold, contemporary digital illustrations of flora and fauna that appear on prints, textiles, and homeware, available here through her online shop.
Cathy’s work has found homes in private collections across the world. Whether painting intimate portraits or crafting detailed botanical designs, her aim is to capture beauty, connection, and the resilience of the human spirit.
In her professional career Cathy has held senior positions in marketing, is a Trustee for a local Charity and is Founder of Child Loss online.
