Private Portrait Commission in Oils

This private oil portrait was commissioned as a lasting celebration of a much-loved companion. With his inquisitive expression, characteristic head tilt and bright red collar, the painting captures not only his appearance, but the personality that makes him instantly recognisable to those who know and love him.

Working from carefully selected photographs, I built the portrait gradually in layers of oil paint, paying particular attention to the warmth and markings of the coat, the softness of the white fur and, most importantly, the expression in the eyes. The simple dark background allows the light, colour and character of the subject to take centre stage.

Private portrait commissions are created individually, with each painting tailored to the subject and the wishes of the client.
